Conway Cannabis Farms IPM Approach:

Here at Conway Cannabis Farms we only employ safe, and organic pest control methods!

We use an advanced Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program that promotes pest free and healthy crops, making sure our cannabis is safe to use and will meet all the states testing standards and qualities.

Biological controls are necessary to any proper IPM solution, here at Conway Cannabis Farms we use beneficial living organisms to help control unwanted pests, these include; predatory mites, beneficial nematodes, rove beetles, and beneficial fungi and bacterias.

First let me start by saying all of our cannabis is grown in living organic soils - this makes a huge difference when it comes to handling pest issues - the living organic soil provides a food source and home to many of the beneficial insects we use and makes sure they survive for the longest period of time in our gardens. When growing in hydro or salt based nutrient mediums its almost impossible to get the beneficial insects to stay around long enough to get rid of your pest issues. This is one of the MANY reasons we use living organic soils! If you would like to know more about living organic soils please feel free to email us, text or call us. We would love to share with you why, what and how we use it!

Beneficial Insects:

Here at Conway Cannabis Farms we like to use beneficial insects to reduce the population in and around the farm of all the bugs that enjoy destroying our cannabis crop!

By utilizing mother natures own method of population control we can almost eliminate the pests around the farm before they even enter the greenhouse! We use several strains of beneficial mites that eat spider mites, broad mites, russet mites and thrips. We also use beneficial nematodes in our pots to keep any root eating insects at bay. Rove beetles are also used in each of our pots to help keep any root eating insects at bay and to handle any larvae or eggs that wind up in the soil (thrips and mites tend to lay eggs/overwinter in the soil making them an everlasting issue if your only treating them above the ground).

We apply these insects once a month no matter if we have spotted pests or not. This makes sure there is always a population of beneficial insects on our crop. All of our Moms and Clones are also treated. This means that you will be receiving those beneficial insects on any clones you get from us furthering the effectiveness of our IPM program right into your own garden!

Here are a few of the beneficial insects we use:

Mite Predator:

Neoseiulus (= Amblyseius) californicus

Thrips Predator:
Neoseiulus (=Amblyseius) cucumeris

Triple Threat Beneficial Nematodes:
H. bacteriaphora, S. carpocapsae, and S. feltiae

We purchase all of our beneficial insects from Arbico Organics.

Triple Threat Beneficial Nematodes

Thrips Predator (Neoseiulus (=Amblyseius) cucumeris)

Mite Predator (Neoseiulus (= Amblyseius) californicus)

Rove Beetles (Dalotia coriaria (=Atheta coriaria))

Beneficial Microbes:

We also brew our own beneficial Microbes in the form of activated compost teas! We use our own special blend of microbes with our compost teas and have developed a specific set of microbes that work well to eliminate fungus and mold issues commonly found on cannabis.

We regularly brew teas and add them into our soil and foliar spray them on the plants themselves. This creates a natural defense against mold and fungus!

LABS - Lactic acid bacteria is produced by us and used on a weekly basis in the soil and foliar sprayed with our compost teas (not added into the brew - we add it after the tea has brewed immediately before spraying) Here is a small article about LABS and cannabis here.

As with all of the other methods we employ in our IPM program we use these before we have an issue with pests! This makes sure we never have to deal with any of the commonly associated issues with cannabis pests, molds and fungi!

Weekly Sprays:

We use a few different sprays on a weekly rotation.

EVERY GARDEN SHOULD BE SPRAYED WEEKLY AS PART OF YOUR IPM PROCESS! The point of this it to make sure you never have an outbreak! Again we use this even if we have not spotted any pests.

Venerate: OMRI CERTIFIED and safe for use in organic agriculture!

Venerate products are microbial based and are powered by several active compounds that span different classes. These compounds drive multiple modes of action which result in exoskeleton degradation and molting interference; control of the pests is achieved through exposure and ingestion of the product. With Venerate’s multiple active compounds and modes of action the risk of insect resistance is greatly reduced.

Venerate advanced bioinsecticides (Burkholderia spp. strain A396) feature multiple modes of action and are effective against a wide variety of chewing and sucking insects and mites yet are easy on beneficials. Their unique and novel modes of action will complement and improve integrated pest management and insect resistance management programs.

Grandevo: OMRI CERTIFIED and safe for use in organic agriculture!

Grandevo is a microbial-based insecticide. Grandevo contains several active compounds that repel, stop feeding, reduce reproduction and induce mortality to prevent the development of damaging populations of sucking and chewing insects, flies and mites. Grandevo can be used on a wide range of organic and conventional crops, including fruits, vegetables, nuts and turf and ornamentals.

The active ingredient in Grandevo CG is a new species of bacteria, Chromobacterium subtsugae, with both insecticidal and miticidal properties. The end product formulation of Grandevo CG contains no living Chromobacterium subtsugae cells and is also quality checked to ensure the product is free of harmful microbial contamination. Upon exposure to plant eating insects and mites, Grandevo CG stops pests from feeding in less than one minute and reduces adult insect and mite reproduction. Cannabis growers are readily adopting Grandevo CG to control bud mites and aphids, while home gardeners and small farmers use Grandevo CG to improve insect and mite control, such as plant-eating aphids, mites, beetles and caterpillars, in their gardens.

Both Grandevo and Venerate DO NOT KILL beneficial insects! This is the main reason we use these on a weekly rotation as it has little effect on the beneficial insects we pay so much money for every month!
